Bob Behnken was a mission specialist on Space Shuttle missions STS-123 (2008) and STS-130 (2010), accumulating over 708 hours in space, including 55 hours of spacewalk time.
He was chosen as an astronaut by NASA in 2000 and has completed three space missions. Most recently, he served as Joint Operations Commander on the SpaceX Crew Dragon’s first crewed flight, the Demo-2 mission, which landed on August 2, 2020.
During ten spacewalks, he spent 93 days in space and 61 hours performing the extravehicular activity.

Bob Behnken was born on July 28, 1970, and brought up in St Ann, a suburb of St Louis, Missouri. He is a NASA astronaut, engineer, and former Astronaut Office Chief.
He graduated from Pattonville High School in Maryland Heights, Missouri, in St. Louis County, in 1992, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering and physics from Washington University in St. Louis.
Then he attended the California Institute of Technology, where he earned an MS in mechanical engineering in 1993 and a Ph.D. in 1997. He shared a doctoral advisor, Christopher E. Brennen, with another future NASA astronaut, Garrett Reisman, while at Caltech.
The astronaut held the rank of colonel in the United States Air Force before joining NASA in 2000.
