Freddie Freeman, known as Temujin Kensu, was found guilty of murder in 1986 and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
In Port Huron, Michigan, a community college parking lot, Freeman was charged with murder for allegedly killing Scott Macklem.
After turning to Buddhism early in life, Frederick also went by Temujin Kensu.
However, in the years since the trial, the prosecution’s theory and the investigation that led up to it have both come under intense scrutiny.

Freddie Freeman is still in jail. The General’s Conviction Integrity Unit decided not to fight for the release of a man who was found guilty of killing a college student.

Freddie Freeman has been imprisoned for 36 years for the 1987 murder of Scott Macklem in a community college parking lot in Port Huron, Michigan. , yet he maintains his innocence.
The way that Fredrick Freeman answers the phone in the conference room while being taken there more closely resembles that of a staff employee than that of an accused murderer.
But as time passed, there were many inconsistencies in the case and how it was handled. A number of witnesses identified Kensu as more than 400 miles away from the murder that day, and there is no physical evidence linking him to it.
The conviction of Kensu has come under fire from defense counsel, media, and independent investigators throughout the years.
When the State of Michigan’s Conviction Integrity Unit denied his petition in early May, his lawyers and staunchest supporters believed it might have been his last chance of wrongful conviction.
Even though U.S. District Judge Denise Hood ruled in 2007 that Kensu should be released or given a new trial, numerous attempts to have the court award relief have failed.

Temujin Kensu Reasonable Doubt Case
In 1987, Scott Macklem was shot and killed in the parking lot of St. Clair Community College. Temujin Kensu was found guilty and given a life sentence.
After a prosecutor at the trial portrayed Kensu as a cunning ninja who was able to charter a jet to fly him from one end of the nation to the other, shoot the victim, and return back home without leaving a trace, Kensu earned the nickname “ninja killer.”
Temujin Kensu was more than 400 miles away from the crime scene at the time of the murder he is convicted for. The prosecution said he chartered a plane in order to commit this crime – but there is ZERO evidence that any of this happened.

Since his arrest, he has asserted that he had nothing to do with the murder. Since his conviction, detectives and his lawyers have found further information they claim proves his innocence, including the testimony of a jailhouse informant being retracted and eyewitness witnesses who did not testify at trial.
High-profile advocates of Kensu’s case have included the late Sen. Carl Levin of Michigan. After exhausting all of his appeals, Kensu, now 58, has been denied pardon three times. His best hope to have his conviction overturned was through the CIU.
New evidence is defined more broadly in a copy of Kensu’s request for CIU review as material that “was not known to the jury which returned the finding of guilty against the prisoner.”
The attorney general’s spokesperson stated that the unit is “restricted in scope and jurisdiction” in answer to inquiries over the standards for evidence.

Freddie Freeman was found guilty of killing student Scott Macklem. When a jury found Freeman guilty of shooting and killing 20-year-old Scott Macklem in a Port Huron parking lot in 1987, he was 25 years old.

A shotgun shell and an empty ammunition box were recovered, but neither biological evidence nor the murder weapon was found.
Although there was no witness to the shooting, two guys claimed to have seen someone who resembled Freeman before and right after the rounds were fired.
Freeman has had a brain tumor, congestive heart failure, chronic lung illness, and maybe an autoimmune condition.
He had previously been denied access to proper medical care while incarcerated, which resulted in significant long-term health problems.
