Lily Tang Williams opted to study in the United States in 1988, quitting her job with only $100 in her pocket and owing $1200 to her American sponsor, a Fulbright professor at the University of Texas at Austin.

She was an assistant professor of law at Fudan University in Shanghai, China before becoming an American entrepreneur and educator.

Lily began her career as a medical social worker for Wyoming Home Health, and she later worked as an executive for firms in both Hong Kong and the United States.
She eventually went into business for herself, offering consultancy and expert witness services in business and legal disputes involving China.
