Lonah Chemtai Salpeter, the third player to cross the line of the World Championship marathon 2022 in Eugene, Ore. in, USA, draped the Israeli flag on her back. After the race, she said she felt proud to represent her country. 

She was the first Israeli to win a major marathon at the Tokyo Marathon in 2020. However, she faced a lot of challenges in representing her country, Israeli.

Lonah said she had free time in the morning and the evening while working and started running. It was like a hobby of hers and nothing serious. The coach of the running group, Moti Mizrahi, saw her training and invited her to join.

She got a leg injury while practicing, and her teammate suggested visiting a physiotherapist. Dan was the roommate of the Physiotherapist.

Dan Salpeter invited Lonah to run with him in Herzliya park, and he started coaching her in 2011.

Dan Salpeter and his wife, Lonah Chemtai Salpeter, were married in 2014 after living together for two years.

This beautiful couple met each other for the first time in 2011. Dan, a supportive husband and a coach, started to train her in 2011. They turned their friendship into a relationship, and after two years, they decided to become husband and wife.

Lonah said there was no connection when she met him for the first time. She felt jealous when Dan came with another girl and wondered what was happening to her. Nervous, she asked herself many questions and didn’t speak with him.

She was more serious about her training. However, the contract with the Kenyan foreign service was about to expire in 2013. Lonah returned to Kenya with Dan and spent over five months, most of the time in running and competition.

Lonah and her husband faced difficulty having a legal marriage in Israel as her husband is Jewish. Therefore in 2014, they traveled to Nairobi and married in a small ceremony with her immediate family in attendance.

They returned to Israel after the wedding with a visa. During this time, she became pregnant.

Dan Salpeter and Lonah Chemtai Salpeter were blessed with their first son, Roy, in December 2014.

The family of three moved to the central part of Israel, Moshav Yanuv. Later, they packed their bags once again and traveled to Shoham. In March 2016, Lonah was finally an Israeli citizen as she was married to an Israeli citizen.

Finally, after eight years of living in Israel, she was an Israeli. The news came mere days before she qualified for the 2016 Summer Olympics in which she represented Israel.

Lonah was an immigrant to Israel from Kenya. However, after her visa contract expired in 2013, she traveled to Kenya with Dan and hoped to return to Israel and start a new life together.

As they faced difficulty in legal marriage in Israel, their son was denied citizenship, even though Roy was born in the country.
