Lord Trimble, the first prime minister of Northern Ireland, died on July 26 due to a short illness.

He was awarded Nobel Peace Prize in 1998 along with John Hume for their efforts to peacefully end the violence in Northern Ireland.

Who Was Lord Trimble? 

He was a British politician who served as Northern Ireland’s first First Minister from 1998 to 2002 and the UUP’s leader from 1995 to 2005. In addition, Trimble served as Upper Bann’s Member of the Legislative Assembly from 1998 to 2007 and its Member of Parliament from 1990 to 2005.

He showed outstanding political bravery when, at a pivotal point in the process, he pushed for solutions that resulted in the Belfast peace deal. This action of his is still praised by world leaders and counted as an example of establishing peace in politically exploited regions.

Vicky was led down the aisle by her father, Lord Trimble, who initially had voted against same-sex marriage in Northern Ireland.

Vicky claimed that she did not discuss her sexuality with her parents until she was in her mid-to-late-twenties. In July 2019, he acknowledged that his daughter’s marriage had pushed him to reconsider his stance on same-sex unions and partnerships after he had previously voted against them. He explained to peers in the House of Lords that he was unwilling to amend that because he had already consented to same-sex marriage.

Many names knew David during his regime. His birth name was William David Trimble, which got changed into Baron Trimble in later years. In order to join the ranks of Conservative Party peers, he was given the title Lord Trimble of Lisnagarvey, his adopted hometown, the old name of Lisburn.

 David Trimble’s Death Cause Was Illness

According to a statement released by Ulster Unionist Party, David passed away because of a short illness at the age of 77. The then-leader of the Ulster Unionists gained recognition on the international scale by socializing with presidents and prime ministers.

He served as the first minister of Northern Ireland in an assembly that took years of acrimonious disputes to organize. Commentators dubbed him the Harry Houdini of Northern Ireland politics because he overcame many obstacles to his leadership and policies.

In his campaign for re-election to Westminster’s Parliament in the general elections of 2005, Trimble was defeated in Upper Bann by David Simpson of the Democratic Unionist Party. After the general election of 2005, the Ulster Unionist Party only managed to hold onto one seat in Parliament, and Trimble resigned as party leader on May 7.
