Mary McCord is the former Assistant U.S. Attorney. Currently, she is the team leader of the Institute for Constitutional Advocacy and Protection (ICAP), bringing constitutional impact litigation to all levels of federal and state courts in various cases involving the First Amendment, immigration, criminal justice reform, and the emergence of private paramilitaries, among other issues.

From 2016 to 2017, McCord served as the U.S. Department of Justice’s acting assistant attorney general for national security. From 2014 to 2016, he served as the position’s principal deputy. Before this, she spent nearly 20 years as an assistant U.S. attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.

Mary held several posts, including Chief of the Criminal Division, where she managed all criminal prosecutions in federal district court, and Deputy Chief in the Appellate Division, where she oversaw and argued hundreds of cases in the U.S. and District of Columbia Courts of Appeals.

Based on her work with ICAP suing white nationalists and private militias that attended the Unite the Right march in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 2017, McCord was given the Oliver White Hill Courageous Advocate Award by the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association in 2018.

Mary Mccord earned her law degree from Georgetown University and worked as a legal clerk for District of Columbia Judge Thomas Hogan. The journalist has worked for over two decades and has an average annual salary of $88,049. Even though she has not revealed it herself, her net worth is estimated at around 2 million USD.

The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court and Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court of Review have officially named McCord as an amicus curiae. Previously, she made a statement implying- “The United States must treat the easy access to semiautomatic weapons as the national security threat it is,” propelling her to the limelight.
