Phara De Aguirre has Spanish Basque roots. Her father, Josu De Aguirre came to Belgium as a refugee in 1937 at the age of 10 during the Spanish Civil War.
Later, her father became secretary-general of the Flemish Secretariat of Catholic Education from 1970 to 1990.
Talking about her educational background, she studied Educational Sciences at the KU Leuven. She was awarded the HA in 2001 from Humo.
