PK Subban Parents And Hockey Star Family Life Growing Up

PK Subban father Karl Subban and mother Marie Subban are both immigrants to Canada.

Karl relocated from Jamaica, whereas Marie immigrated from the Caribbean island of Montserrat in 1970.

Karl Subban Used To Be A School Principal

Karl Subban worked as a school principal until age 55 when he finally retired in 2013. He was affiliated with the Toronto District School Board.

The eldest Subban migrated to the Canadian lands as a 12-year-old in 1970 from Jamaica and has established himself and his further generations.

Not only was Karl PK's father, but he was also his school principal. PK has always had his love, support, and guidance.

The 2012 African Canadian Achievement Award of Excellence in Education recipient, Karl, has immensely improved the condition and situation of the school he principled through hard work and dedication. When he entered Brookview Middle School as its principal, the school was not in a good state.

He eradicated severe problems from the institution, like high absenteeism from students, frequent fights, and low academics, making him a worthy recipient of the award.

With an unsuccessful dream of playing in the NBA professionally, Karl made a place for himself in society as a respectable individual with a decent job. However, he has supported his kids in fulfilling their dream of going professional.

PK always remembers his father's teachings, which helps to motivate and inspire him. Subban remembers his father's quote, “Be yourself because everyone else is taken,” and tries to implement it.

Marie Subban Worked As A Banker

PK Subban mother Marie used to work in the banking sector when he was young.

Having migrated from the Caribbean island of Montserrat at 11 in 1970, the same year as her husband, they have managed to form a happy and prosperous family.

The mother of five relocated with her siblings after her parents passed away back home. The initial years were tough on Marie, knowing she couldn't return home and had to settle on a new land, as per the Athletic.

Marie also served in the Canadian Military for four years before leaving the job as a corporal. She often visits the hockey arena to cheer for her children and is a colorful presence in the stands.

PK Subban is one of five kids to his mom Marie and dad Karl. Subban grew up with his four other siblings in Toronto.

Subban had an easy childhood growing up as he was well provided and taken care.

PK Subban Brothers Play In The NHL

Following their elder brother's footsteps, both Malcolm and Jordan Subban has been playing Ice Hockey professionally.

Malcolm plays for the Buffalo Sabres in the NHL as their Goaltender. Born on December 21, 1993, the 29-year-old was drafted into the league via the 2012 NHL entry draft as the 24th overall pick by the Boston Bruins.

PK's other brother, the youngest, Jordan, is currently an unrestricted free agent. He last played for the Hershey Bears in the AHL.

Jordan was drafted into the league via the 2013 draft as the 115th overall pick by the Vancouver Canucks. Born on March 3, 1995, the 27-year-old plays as a defenceman just like his elder brother.

The Subban Sisters Followed Their Father's Footsteps

PK has two sisters, Natasha and Nastassia. Both of his sisters followed in their father's footsteps and became teachers.

Nastassia, the eldest of the two and the eldest child overall, was a basketball player in her college. But, she later shifted her focus to becoming a full-time teacher.

After trying her hands at family law, she now teaches in the Jane and Finch area. However, she realized that it wasn't for her, as reported by CBC.

Natasha strived to become a teacher. She teaches art at Elmbank Middle Junior School. Both siblings feel honored to be educators and want to help others with their profession as a medium.
