Ateneo Shooting: Who Is Remus Medina? QCPD Director PBGen Gives Information After Identifying Suspect Chao Tiao Yumol
In one of the most renowned universities in the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University, a shooting occurred during the graduation ceremony, leaving three people dead and two wounded. The previous mayor of the southern Lamitan city, Rose Furigay, was also killed in the shooting, according to local Quezon City police chief Remus Medina. This information suggests that the attack was performed as part of an assassination attempt.
In a shootout with a campus security guard, the suspect Dr. Chao Tiao Yumul, also sustained injuries. He was apprehended following a car chase.
Ateneo Shooting: Who Is Remus Medina?

On July 24, 2022, as law students and their families gathered for a graduation celebration at the Ateneo de Manila University in Quezon City, a gunman started firing, killing three people. Because a former mayor of Lamitan town on the southern Basilan Island, Rose Furigay, was among the three killed in the shooting, Medina suspects that the shooting could be an assassination plan.

According to a police report, Furigay’s daughter was also hurt and taken to a hospital during the incident. Alexander Gesmundo, the Supreme Court Chief Justice, was on his way to the college when the incident occurred but was detoured. He was scheduled to speak at the event.
In addition to politician Rose Furigay, a campus security guard and Furigay’s executive assistant, Victor Capistrano, were also killed in the shooting, as reported by Median.
QCPD Director Told About Suspect Dr Chao Tiao Yumol
Quezon City Police Department Headquarters (QCPD) director Remus Medina released the suspect’s identity as Dr. Chao Tiao Yumul, a Lamitan City, Basilan citizen. He had two pistols in possession, and according to Median, he was a determined assassin.
Dr. Chao Tiao Yumol is a medical professional who has a history of 26 counts of cybercrime. He was apprehended by responding police and traffic cops as he fled the site after the gun attack. Furigay, who is said to have just ordered the closure of his clinic in Lamitan City, is the target of his purported vengeance, according to reports.

Yumol stated he was attacking for personal reasons. He deemed Rose Furigay and her husband Roderick Furigay corrupt and involved in the illegal drug trade. He claims that Rose Furigay is one of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency’s three high-value targets. Additionally, according to QCPD Director Medina, Furigays were the ones who accused Yumol of cyber slander. The two sides were already at odds with one another in Lamitan, and they were bringing legal claims against one another. The conflict was very personal as Yumol was unable to practice medicine because of the cases filed by Furigays.

Who Is Chao Tiao Yumol’s Wife?
Chao Tiao Yumo’s private life hasn’t been revealed yet. Furthermore, his social media engagements do not indicate much about his marital life.
Yumol could or could not be married. But, based on the gun attack he did, we can make a subtle assumption that he is not married and does not have a wife or family.
With all the evidence proving Yumol guilty of the attack, it is highly likely that he will face the worst of punishments. Even if he has his own family, they will have to suffer the grief of his wrongdoings for a lifetime.
