The Brazilian lady was one of the most respected and influential leaders in the south of the country. She was an integral part of the Articulation of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil (Apib) and the Articulation of Indigenous Peoples of the Southern Region (Arpinsul).
Her movement officially began in 2001 after she joined the Fundação Nacional do Índio ( FUNAI), a Brazilian governmental protection agency for Amerindian interests and their culture.
Between 2005 and 2007, she held the position of general coordinator of Community Development, from where she launched several projects to support indigenous women while encouraging the political organizations of these women.

The Brazilan leader fought for the freedom and equality of the Kaingang people, an indigenous Brazilian ethnic group located in the Southern part of the country.
People in Brazil consider her the symbol of revolution. The Kaingain lady played a vital role to carry out the mission of the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) which investigated the living conditions and violations of the rights of indigenous populations in southern Brazil.

The activist’s indigenous name is Kokoj, which was given to her in honor of her great grandmother who died at the age of 120. In her language, Kokoj means hummingbird.
In particular, she will be remembered for her active participation in the National Indigenous Mobilization and the Free Land Camp movement.
