Daphne was assigned as a part-time Commissioner in the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission (NIHRC) in 2008, after serving on the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland, and publicly opposed its proposals for a Bill of Rights for Northern Ireland.
She resigned from the NIHRC in order to run unsuccessfully for the Ulster Conservatives and Unionists in the Lagan Valley constituency in the UK general election in May 2010.
She married her former lecturer David Trimble in August 1978 after graduating in Law from Queen’s University Belfast, gaining the title of Lady on his elevation to the House of Lords in June 2006.
Daphne has also worked in Armagh schools such as Portadown College.

In August 1978, Trimble married a student, Daphne Elizabeth. They have two sons and two daughters named Richard, Victoria, Nicholas, and Sarah.
His son, Nicholas, is a member of the Ulster Unionist Party. Nicholas Trimble was co-opted to substitute Alexander Redpath as a Lisburn and Castlereagh City Councillor representing Downshire West in 2016.
In July 2019, he admitted that his lesbian daughter Vicky, who married her girlfriend Rosalind Stephens in Scotland in 2017, “forced” him to change his views on same-sex marriage and partnerships after voting against them.
