Noa Szlls is an Israeli alpine skier of Hungarian ancestry.

She is currently trying to finish at the top of her year after a fantastic debut FIS season. Noa was up in a skier’s family, so she was well aware of the hardships and competition of the sport, but she never let it deter her.

When Noa stood on skis for the first time at the age of two, she recognized that skiing would be a large part of her life for the rest of her life. 

Noa Szlls will represent Israel in the Alpine World Ski Championships in Cortina d’Ampezzo in 2021.

Her most notable accomplishment to date has been capturing silver and bronze medals in Alpine Combined and Super-G at the 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lausanne.

It was also Israel’s first medal in a winter Olympics competition.

In Israel, which has just two ski resorts, there is little of a snowsports culture (one of which relies on artificial snow. She’d never skied there before. But she felt grateful to Israel for providing them with an opportunity that their native nation did not.

Talking about her parents, her father, Peter, represented Israel as a downhill skier during the 1990s.

His most notable accomplishments were finishing 18th in slalom and competing in the 1993 Alpine World Ski Championships.

Her brother, Barnabas, who competes in alpine and freestyle skiing, and Benjamin, who competes in freestyle skiing, are also Israeli athletes.

Their grandmother was an Auschwitz survivor, will accompany them to the Winter Olympic Games.

In the early 1990s, Peter Szlls immigrated from Hungary to compete for Israel’s national team, which he also coached from 1995 to 2004.

The children acquired their father’s Jewish identity — through Barnabás stated the family did not follow Judaism when they were growing up — as well as his love of snowsports.
