The incident occurred on February 20, 1987, in Michigan, where Gilham hit the 30-year-old lady, Roxanne Leigh Wood, with a pan and then slit her throat. After 37 years of court cases, justice prevailed on Monday.

Last month, Patrick pleaded no contest to the second-degree murder of Wood, with a plea deal of 23 to 50 years in prison. At the same time, he told that he remembers nothing of the incident.

However, on Monday, Patrick apologized at the hearing. As per media reports, the 67-year-old killer said, “I’m so sorry. I hope sometime in the future, with God’s help, that you can forgive me.”

As per the latest media updates, Patrick Wayne Gilham was sentenced to jail after pleading no contest in court. People want to know who he is.

Patrick, a Michigan resident, was found guilty of the second-degree murder of a 30-year-old woman, Roxanne Leigh Wood. The police authorities stated that Patrick hit Wood with a frying pan and slit her throat.

Initially, people suspected that Wood’s husband, Terry Wood, was the murderer. However, the DNA report suggested otherwise, which led police to Gilham. 

Investigators obtained DNA from the cigarette Patrick threw away at the murder spot. After that, authorities arrested him 10 miles away from Niles at his home in South Bend, Indiana.

What Happened To Roxanne Leigh Wood?

Roxanne Leigh Wood suffered one of the most ferocious murders on February 20, 1987, in Niles, Michigan.

Wood was 30 years of age at the time of her death. Her dead body was first seen by her husband, Terry Wood, who immediately reported the case to the police. The case was quickly classified as a homicide, and investigations began.

It took almost 35 years to solve the case. At first, Wood was hitten by a frying pan and then got slaughtered.

Response From The Family Of The Victim

The family of the victim has finally got the justice they deserved.

Wood’s surviving family members described Gilham as the predator and said that his actions have haunted their family for decades. Wood’s younger sister, Janet Wood said, “His actions gave all of us a life sentence.”

Wood’s brother, Brad Wood also expressed his anger at the hearing. Furthermore, Terry Wood, Wood’s husband, got justice as he was suspected, initially, by the police and the public.
