His funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon at The altar of the Church of St. John the Baptist, where lots of his colleagues, well-wishers, friends, and family were present.

The Tipperary GAA rescheduled the weekend’s plays out of respect. Michael D. Higgins, the president of Ireland, and Micheál Martin, the Taoiseach, paid respects.

On August 6, his local club hosted a vigil. Then, before the camogie championships on August 7, tributes were paid on television. His funeral was held on August 9 in Clonoulty.

Quirke was born on February 28, 1998, in Rossmore, County Tipperary, Ireland. He was an Irish hurler who competed for Clonoulty-Rossmore in the Tipperary Senior Championship and the Tipperary Senior Hurling Team at the inter-county level.

He was from an athletic family as Dan Quirke, Quirke’s father, competed in the All-Ireland Under-21 Hurling Championship and earned an All-Ireland medal at the under-21 level. Before beginning his playing career at Thurles CBS, he initially participated in several youth competitions while still a student at Rossmore National School.

Quirke played in every grade and was a part of the Thurles CBS senior team that defeated St. Francis’ College to win the Harty Cup in 2015 before falling short to St. Kieran’s College in the ensuing All-Ireland final.

On April 17, 2022, he started his first championship game against Waterford in the Munster Hurling Championship’s opening round. Before his untimely passing, he played for Tipperary’s senior inter-county team in just one season and started all four championship games at wing-back.

The Tipperary hurler Dillon Quirke’s funeral was held in his hometown of Clonoulty on August 9, and thousands of people attended. A guard of honor was provided as the caravan traveled from the GAA Clubhouse through the hamlet to St. John the Baptists Church for requiem mass by Dillon’s inter-county, club, and opponent Kilruane MacDonaghs squad from last Friday night’s game.

His teammates from Clonoulty-Rossmore carried the coffin into the church while it was decorated in the colors of his club team and county.
