In a statement announcing his demise, his family praised his lengthy career and contributions to children’s television.

An associate of Cribbins, Gavin Barker, wrote: ‘Beloved actor Bernard Cribbins OBE has passed away at the age of 93. Bernard’s donation to British entertainment is without question. He was unique, typifying the best of his generation, and will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing and working with him.’

Dr. Who actor Bernard Cribbins lost his wife of 66 years in October last year. He wedded actress Gillian McBarnet, in 1955, after meeting at the Oldham Rep. They lived happily together in Weybridge, Surrey, with no children.

Talking about his parents, Bernard was born to parents Ethel and John Edward Cribbins. His dad was a World War II veteran, while his mother worked as a cotton weaver. The actor had two siblings, with whom he was raised in the Derker area of Oldham, Lancashire.

Bernard Cribbins was born on December 29, 1928. He left school at 13 and pursued his career in acting. 

As a T.V. actor, he made his debut in the 1956 version of David Copperfield. He made his Doctor Who debut in 1964 with Peter Cushing in the movie Daleks’ Invasion of Earth 2150 A.D. He later earned a comeback in 2007 for the show’s resurrection as Wilfred Mott, a distinct character.
