Daniela Ryf, a Swiss triathlete, dated partner Brett Sutton but was never married. The former Ironman World Champion is focusing on her sporting journey.

Daniela is a diesel engine designed for extended, tiresome days. Despite not reaching the impressive heights of her long-distance career, she did have a successful run in short-course triathlon.

After winning the 2008 World Under-23 Championship, Daniela competed in her first Olympics in Beijing, where she impressively placed eighth at 21. She competed in the London 2012 Games as well, but her 40th place marked the end of her short-course career, including just one ITU World Triathlon Series triumph.

Daniela has had extraordinary success after giving up Olympic-distance racing. Across 30 victories over both middle and long distances have been recorded by her. These victories weren’t just in just events; they also included taking the checkered flag at the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship five times.

There were numerous exceptional performances in the victories. One is, without a doubt, the Alpe d’Huez race in 2019, where Daniela placed sixth overall and finished around 30 minutes clear of the next female. However, her sixth 70.3 World title triumph in 2019 would be difficult to top.

Her Recent Victory – Steers Team Europe

At the 2022 Collins Cup, Ryf turns in the best bike performance of the day, winning her match against Flora Duffy and Sarah True and assisting Team Europe in defending their title.

In addition, she crosses the finish line ahead of Kat Mathews of Great Britain by 7 minutes at the postponed 2021 Ironman World Championship to win her fifth world title and enter an exclusive group that only includes her fellow countrywoman Natascha Badmann and the Zimbabwean Paula Newby-Fraser.

What’s next for Daniela Ryf?

The next goal is to compete for the sixth Ironman world championship on Kona’s sacred land in October if she might even be able to lower her Kona course record further.

Not to mention that Ryf has won the Ironman 70.3 world title five times, while Badmann and Newby-Fraser have never done so.

Over the second half of the 2010s, Ryf dominated women’s long-distance triathlon, winning 10 Ironman world titles in total.

None of them were as stunning as her victory in 2018 when she not only cut almost 20 minutes off the previous course record in Kona but also managed to do it while being stung by a jellyfish during the swim. Daniela Ryf is among the toughest of them all.
