He reported from Virginia Beach, Virginia, after a mass shooting at the city’s municipal complex, and from El Paso, Texas, after an attack on shoppers at a Walmart Supercenter.

David Gura’s wife is Kate Brannen. Kate Brannen was the editorial director for “Just Security” from 2016-2021 and a nonresident senior fellow at the Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security.

She has written for “The Atlantic,” “The Washington Post,” “Foreign Policy (FP)’, The Guardian,” “The Daily Beast,” “Slate,” “USA Today,” “Newsweek,” and “Vice.”

In the past, she was a senior reporter covering the Pentagon for Foreign Policy. Before that, Brennen was a defense reporter for POLITICO, where she was also responsible for “Morning Defense,” POLITICO’s daily national security newsletter.  

Earlier than that, as the congressional reporter for Defense News, she covered budget and defense policy debates on Capitol Hill. She covered the US Army for three years, initially as a reporter for InsideDefense.com and later as the land warfare correspondent for Defense News.

David Gura and his wife have two children whose name has not been exposed by the married couple. In late 2018, he announced through his social media that he and his wife were expecting a baby soon and would be taking days off.

David began his career when he was still schooling. He interned at the WUNC-FM in North Carolina for four months in 2007 after graduation. Afterward, he was promoted to assistant editor in May of the following year. He was assigned as a reporter for one of NPR’s most popular shows, “The Two Way,” in February 2010 but left the show in October 2010 to join American Public Media as a reporter for their show “Marketplace.”
