Due to the similarity in the Surname “Colbert,” some people suspect that Stephen and Tom might be related to each other. Moreover, both of their involvement in the media business adds further fuel to the burning rumors.
However, Tom Colbert is not related to Stephen Colbert by any means.
Neither the talk show host nor the investigator has ever mentioned being relatives or friends. The similarity in their last name seems a mere coincidence.
What Happened to Tom Colbert? Whereabouts of DB Cooper Investigator
Tom Colbert spent five years hiring dozen of FBI and more than 40 veteran investigators to solve the D. B. Cooper case. By 2018, Colbert had already emptied approximately 250,000 USD to identify the mysterious man.
Despite his strides, the FBI announced the D.B. Cooper case was “administratively closed.” Eventually, Colbert also halted his hunt in February 2018.

Recently, Tom appeared in Netflix’s new 4-part documentary concerning D.B. Cooper. Similarly, the public showcasing of his other unsolved projects is also on the line.
Tom Colbert Case Update – What Happened?
Tom Colbert concluded the main suspect behind D.B. Cooper was Robert Rackstraw Sr.
Apparently, Rackstraw’s pictures matched the few available D.B. Cooper sketches. His former military background and skyjacking training further solidified Colbert’s suspicion.
The investigator even put a bait of 10,000 USD to catch Rackstraw in the act. But, Rackstraw did not fall into the trap.
On the other hand, some people have found loopholes in his claims, including the history channel rejecting this theory. Nonetheless, Colbert considers the case “solved” and alleges the FBI is hiding evidence of the case.
