Sherwood Blount has been living in his birth town Dallas County, Texas, since the dawn of the Southern Methodist University Football team.

He has left behind all the issues and scandals that were previously the main focus of his life throughout his adult years and is now leading a serene life in the country without making many public appearances.

The Southern Methodist University football scandal involved major NCAA rules and regulations infractions, which led to an investigation and punishment of the football team at SMU.

The upkeep of a slush fund utilized from the middle of the 1970s until 1986 for “under the table” payments to players were the most significant offense. The NCAA ultimately imposed the alleged “death sentence” by canceling SMU’s entire 1987 season.

SMU was permitted to return for a condensed 1988 season but decided to forego playing that year when school administrators felt it would be difficult to build a competitive squad.

Ultimately, the NCAA inquiry found that 13 players had received a total of $61,000 from a booster-provided slush fund between 1985 and 1986. Sherwood Blount, Jr., a Dallas real estate entrepreneur who played for the Mustangs from 1969 to 1971, was eventually identified as the booster by The Times Herald. Throughout the 1985–86 academic year, the players had received a total of $47,000.

Blount had his hands in real estate and businesses when he was a 29-year-old in 1979. According to Business Guide Africa, the self-made millionaire has an estimated net worth of $8 million in 2022. 

He realized he needed money one Saturday morning in the winter of 1961 when Blount went into the kitchen of his parents’ little, tidy white clapboard home in East Dallas and begged his mother for a quarter to go to the theater. But denied by his parents, he learned that day his parents were not earning enough money.

Blount decided that he wanted more money than just what his father had; enough to eat and live in a big house; so that he could always go to the movies, buy a fancy car, eat at restro every night, and join the Lakewood Country Club and play golf. That became his inspiration. 

In 1979, the 29-year-old young and energetic Blountwas the owner of two 79 Cadillacs, the best neighborhood in Dallas, and a brand-new home. He was also the head of his own real estate brokerage company. He generated almost $250,000 in the first four months of that year. His total assets were $2,194,800.

United States senior citizen Sherwood Blount Jr. was born in Texas on September 25, 1949. According to his family tree, which indicates that he wed Mary K. (Jones) Blount on December 18, 1971, in Texas.

However, the couple eventually divorced on May 13, 1976, after being together for almost five years. Then he married Phyllis D. Bisch in September 1979 and had tw children with her. The marriage also led to a divorce, and in 1987, they separated.

Speaking of his parents, they were Lila Louise “Sissy” York (mother) and Sherwood Edmondson Blount Sr. (father). On Monday, June 15, 2009, his mother, Lila  Blount, age 89, passed away quietly in their home with him at her side.
