According to NBC New York, the gunman “carried a weapon and either military-style gear or a form of body armor.” As per Buffalo News, the suspect was “clad in body armor and equipped with a high-powered weapon.”

As stated by the publication, one of the victims is “a recently retired Buffalo policeman who worked security at the business.” The same source stated that half of the dead were located in the store’s parking lot.
