Harris Steve Hopkins: DeAndre Hopkins Dad and Parents Family

Harris Steve Hopkins is the late father of American football wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins who plays in the NFL for the Arizona Cardinals.

DeAndre lost his father in a car accident when he was only five months old in 1992; the incident happened when his parents returned from visiting family in Atlanta.

Furthermore, Harris was only 25 when his Ford Mustang GTS hydroplaned on the rain-soaked road leading to an unfortunate event. Luckily the footballer’s mom escaped with minor injuries.

Although the footballer grew up without his dad, he shared many common habits with the elder Hopkins, like waking up in the middle of the night, having similar tastes, and following the fashion. 

DeAndre got raised by a single mother and has no memories of his father; thus, he credits all his success to his beloved mom Sabrina Greenlee.

Sabrina is a former high school cheerleader who met her future husband when she was 19; however, her significant other left too soon, leaving her behind with their four children.

She had two jobs, working at an automotive plant during the day while at night she was an exotic dancer. But she underwent many hardships and tragedies that stole her eyes and jobs.

Yet Greenlee never gave up in life, and Hopkins has so much love and respect for his mother; they share more of a friendship as a mother-son relationship. And although the single mom lost sight, she always attends her child’s matches to support him.

DeAndre Hopkins Mom Overcame The Tragedy And Is Now An Activist 

Sabrina has been through a lot; she has had many abusive relationships, became a teen mom, had to raise her kids on her own and became a victim of an acid attack.

One of her toxic relationships nearly took her life; when she went to retrieve the car from her ex-boyfriend that he took without permission, a girl named Savannah Grant threw a bucket of bleach mixed with lye on her; Grant got sentenced to 20 years in prison.

She was shattered, broken, and miserable when her children were scared of her appearance after the attack as they were very young; DeAndre was only ten then. Yet they never stopped loving their mom for who she was and never cared about her blindness; she also lost her vision after the tragic incident.

Slowly Greenlee began living her life by forgetting the past and has now become a nationally celebrated community activist, author, inspirational speaker, and domestic violence survivor. Furthermore, she has dedicated her life to facilitating women’s growth and evolution; the activist is the founder of the non-profit organization Smoooth.

Hopkins grew up alongside his three siblings, Marcus Greenlee, Kesha Smith, and Shanterria Cobb, two of which are his half-siblings.

The siblings progressed by playing tackle in the middle of the street. Kesha was better at football than some boys in their neighborhood, and she graduated from Southern Wesleyan University. Smith is now a basketball trainer and slot receiver for the women’s football league at Houston Energy.

Likewise, Marcus was a standout basketball and football player in high school who briefly attended Georgia Military College. Furthermore, her biological sister Shanterria signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Texas Southern University in 2016; she was an all-region selection in basketball three times at D.W. Daniel High School. 

DeAndre Is Christian And Idolize His Cousin

The basketball player grew up in a church and got baptized at Clemson in 2012; his faith is a significant part of his life, and he has dedicated his life to Jesus Christ.

DeAndre believes in working hard, living right, and having faith in the Lord while never giving up, no matter how hard life gets; he had a tough life growing up, but he chased his dream to become one of the NFL’s brightest stars.

Furthermore, the footballer idolized Javis Austin while growing up; Javis played for Clemson. However, Javis tried to take his life, destroying his right eye and damaging his left. His choice ended his football career, so he began working as a special educator at an elementary school in Clemson, South Carolina.

DeAndre is one of the wealthiest NFL players, with a net worth of $40 million in 2022; he signed a two-year contract extension worth $54.5 million with the Cardinals on the 8th of September 2020.

The athlete signed his first contract with Houston Texans on the 24th of July 2013 with a four-year contract of $7.62 million. Likewise, his agreement with the team in 2017 paid him $81 million for five years with $49 million guaranteed, which was the most ever for a wide receiver. 

Furthermore, Hopkins partnered with Beyond Meat in March 2020 and started the Feed A Million+ pledge, intending to donate and distribute more than one million Beyond Burgers to needy people across the United States.

DeAndre Hopkins Career In A Nutshell

Hopkins possessed a rare gift, and everyone in his town knew he would become a future star; he has always had oversized hands, which he used to rewrite his family’s story.

He has been into athletics since a young age; he played basketball and football and ran track and field at D. W. Daniel High School for the Lions’ athletic teams.

After graduating high school, the athlete enrolled in Clemson University and played (from 2010 to 2012) for the Clemson Tigers football team. Furthermore, he also played basketball and appeared in seven games for the Tigers basketball team in the 2010–11 season.

Moreover, Houston Texans selected DeAndre in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft as the 27th overall pick, and he made his NFL debut against the San Diego Chargers in the season opener. 

Later the Texans traded him to the Arizona Cardinals in the 2020 NFL Draft; however, many sportswriters called it one of the worst trades of all time while praising the Cardinals for robbing the Texans. The footballer made his debut for the Cardinal against the San Francisco 49ers on the 13th of September 2020.
