Jamil Hopoate is a well-known Australian former professional rugby league footballer. He last participated in the National Rugby League competition for the Brisbane Broncos as a lock and second row (NRL).

2. He Is Of Tongan Descent

Jamil was born in Manly, New South Wales, Australia, on November 8, 1994. He is of Tongan descent. The football player is 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs 93 kilograms.

3. His Father Is Former Rugby League Player

Jamil’s father John Hopoate was a boxer and a professional rugby league player. He joined the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles club in 1993 when he was 19 years old.

At Brookvale Oval, he made his first-class debut against the Canberra Raiders. In the 1994 Pacific Cup, he was a member of the Tonga national rugby league squad.

Hopoate contributed significantly to his team’s success in his fourth season at Manly. He had a slower start to the season than the previous year, scoring just five tries in the first 20 games, but his defense had greatly improved, allowing his team to allow fewer tries.

He added six more tries to his season total, including four in one match against the South Sydney Rabbitohs, and ultimately led his Manly team to their first championship in more than eight years.

4. Jamil Made His Debut In 2020 NRL Season

In the opening round of the 2020 NRL season, Jamil made his professional debut for the Brisbane Broncos against the North Queensland Cowboys.

He participated in 12 games for Brisbane during the 2020 NRL season, in which the club’s first-ever last-place finish in the standings.

William Hopoate is an international rugby league player who competes for St Helens in the ESL and plays center, fullback, and wing.

He participated in the National Rugby League competition while playing for the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles, Parramatta Eels, and Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs.

Hopoate has also competed in the State of Origin series for New South Wales City and New South Wales. He joined Manly’s teams in 2009 at the age of 16, participating in the entire Sea Eagles Toyota Cup season.

7. He Was Terminated By Parramatta Eels

Jamil was terminated by Parramatta and Manly for off-field issues before making his NRL debut. Following an aggressive assault on two men in a Sydney pub in 2014, Hopoate received a one-year sentence and a two-year good behavior bond.

Following the incident, Hopoate was fired by his team Manly-Warringah.

8. Jamil Has Been Sentenced To Prison

Jamil Hopoate was accused of supplying drugs on a wide scale for commercial purposes in May 2021. He entered a guilty plea in May 2022.

 On October 20, he and Leanne Mofoa, who was accused of being an accessory after the fact, received their sentences. Hopoate was sentenced to a maximum of three years and nine months in prison; he will be eligible for parole on July 25, 2024. 

9. His Father Was Charged With Common Assault

John Hopoate was charged with assault resulting in actual bodily injury and affray in December 2010. He admitted to harassing a parking enforcement officer in front of the Trademark Hotel in June 2013 in August. For the incident, he was given a $400 fine.

John was jailed and charged with common assault after an incident involving a Crows Nest shop employee in May 2016 After that, Hopoate entered a guilty plea. He received an 18-month good behavior bond and a $1,500 fine as his punishment.

10. His Brother William Signed Two Year Contract With Paramatta Eels

William Hopoate signed with the Parramatta Eels in October 2011 for two years starting in 2014, following the conclusion of his Mormon mission.

He agreed to re-sign with the Eels on a 3-year contract in April 2015, however owing to legal issues, the agreement wasn’t registered and Hopoate was left a free agent.

Hopoate sued The Parramatta Eels in 2016 and asked the judge to award him $1.83 million in compensation. Both parties agreed to a $400,000 settlement on October 29, 2016.
