The 69-year-old former athlete enjoyed a 16-year career and became one of the most popular players in the Flames history. He played in the National Hockey League for the Colorado Rockies, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Calgary Flames from 1973 to 1989.
After retiring, he pursued a management career, and Ardell has always supported him in every step of his life. In their 47 years of marriage, the couple gave life to four children. In turn, they blessed the couple with seven grandchildren.

McDonald was only a teenager when he found the woman of his dream whom he would eventually marry and start a family with. The pair walked down the aisle and exchanged wedding vows in 1975.

Ardell has blessed her husband with two daughters and two sons: Andra, Leah, Barrett, and Graham.
The pair welcomed their first child Andra in 1977. She weighed 8 pounds and 9 ounces during her birth. Later in 1980, they had their second daughter Leah who weighed 9 pounds at birth.
The sisters share almost three years of an age gap and are both in their early 40s. The former ice hockey player and his significant other had Graham in 1987. Furthermore, their children have settled down and are busy in their careers.
