Max Verstappen’s Mother Sophie Kumpen Is Karting Champion Turned Interior Designer
Max Verstappen and his mother, Sophie Kumpen, have recently received criticism on the internet from many fans.
Verstappen, a two-time Formula One World Champion, refused the team’s order to give up his place to teammate Sergio Perez in the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
When the racing driver received criticism for the Brazilian GP incident on Instagram, his mother went to shade Perez for cheating on his wife. He was caught celebrating his Monaco GP win with multiple women on a yacht in June.
Max competes in Formula One with Red Bull Racing under the Dutch flag; he will remain at RBR until the end of the 2028 season. Similarly, Sergio also races in Formula One for Red Bull Racing and will be with the team until the end of 2024.

Sophie Kumpen, the ever-young mother of the Belgian-Dutch racing driver Max Verstappen, was a champion go-karter in her heyday.
Sophie is now an interior designer after putting behind her racing days.
Kumpen was a keen racer in her youth; she started go-karting at age ten and finished in the 9th position in the Formula A World Championship when she was 16.
The following year Sophie competed in the karting world championship and finished ahead of Giancarlo Fisichella; she also raced against the Red Bull chief Christian Horner in the 1989 Junior Kart World Championship.
Like Max, his mom also has racing in her blood. Her brother Paul Kumpen is a former race pilot and 1987 Belgian Rallycross Champion. His son Anthony is a Belgian professional racing driver and PK Carsport’s team manager. Likewise, her dad Robert is the former chairman of the Belgian outfit KRC Genk.
However, she gave up on her promising racing career despite having the talent at age 21 after meeting her ex-husband Jos Verstappen. She broke a vertebra during her final race in 2013 at the Zandvoort circuit. After ending her sports career, the former karter began working as a social support worker at the OCMW in Maaseik.
Sophie Kumpen Called Out Checo Perez For Cheating On Wife Carola Martinez
Sophie Kumpern called out her son’s teammate Sergio “Checo” Perez of cheating on his wife but has since deleted the comment.
The former karter replied to an Instagram post criticizing his son for the Brazilian GP incident and commented Perez of being unfaithful to his significant other, Carola Martinez; she wrote, ‘And then in the evening cheating on his wife.’

Checo previously made headlines after videos of him dancing on a yacht with multiple women were all over the internet; a 32-year-old also got spotted with his arms wrapped around a blonde.
Likewise, the father of three got seen getting up close & personal with a brunette while partying the night away and toasting his victory after winning the Monaco GP in June. The racing driver publically apologized to his spouse of four years, Carola Martinez.
Sophie Kumpen Has A Daughter
Max Verstappen is not the only child of Sophie Kumpen. She is also a mother to her daughter Victoria-Jane Verstappen from her marriage to Jos Verstappen.
Sophie and Jos separated when their kids were young; their son lived with the father after the couple’s divorce, whereas their daughter lived with her.
Although the racing driver was born and resided in Bree, Belgium, to a Belgian mother, he shared that he only lived in Belgium to sleep but went to the Netherlands during the day.
Furthermore, he got raised by his dad as a Dutch person in Maaseik, at the Dutch border, so the racer ended up competing with a Dutch racing license. However, he spends holidays with Sophie and Victoria.
In contrast, Victoria, who grew up with her mom, is a fitness enthusiast and a fashion blogger on Instagram. Furthermore, she has started a family with her partner Tom Heuts, and they share two adorable sons, Luka & Lio Heuts.
