Rising the ranks is a footballer from Leixlip, a town in the Republic of Ireland. Andrew Omobamidele is having a breakthrough season in the EFL Championship this year. 

Norwich City acquired the 20-year-old from Leixlip United as they followed the signing of Josh Giurgi, making Andrew the second Leixlip United player to sign for Norwich City in as many years.

Moreover, the young defender spent two years with the Canaries’ youth team before getting the senior spot in 2021/22. He played in a few games here and there in the premier league. 

Unfortunately, Norwich City was relegated to the Championship. And he has been undroppable the whole season. The fullback has started all 21 games for Norwich this season, placing his team firmly in the fifth position. They will try hard to get promoted. 

Also, Omobamidele has already made his international debut for the Republic of Ireland. He played his first international game in a World Cup qualifier against Portugal.

  • Andrew Omobamidele was born to an Irish mother and a Nigerian father. His father was an immigrant from Nigeria. His mother was born in Cork. The footballer dedicates his success to his parents, who support him. 
  • The 20-year-old also has a sister named Fiona. He is, however, yet to upload any family photos on social media. 
  • Andrew Omobamidele was born in Dublin. He then spent a few years of childhood in Lucan before his parents eventually moved to Leixlip. He is 20 years old. 
  • At 8, he joined the academy of Leixlip United, the local club. The defender spent his initial years in the B team even though he wasn’t proud. 
  • Andrew Omobamidele also played in the District Schoolboys league alongside the Irish goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu. The youngster is one of the best emerging Irish players. He is the first member of his family to play professional football.
