What Happened To Michael Schumacher? 

Since his family removed him from the hospital after the grave accident, Michael continued his recovery at home in privacy. The Formula One legend has since been kept out of the public eye.

The German sportsman spent more than six months in a coma after suffering a terrible head injury in a skiing accident in 2013. Although he has since awakened and has even traveled, Schumacher still spends most of his time at home, where his family, including his wife Corinna, takes care of him.

Michael hasn’t been seen publicly since the accident, and his family has always kept their discussions about his health private. Recently, Corinna Schumacher, Michael Schumacher’s wife, sobbed while she provided a rare update on her husband’s health.

According to The Telegraph (2014), Schumacher was paralyzed and took the support of a wheelchair. As he spent a long time without moving, he reportedly developed muscle atrophy and osteoporosis.

Michael Schumacher’s Wife Corinna Gives Update After Skiing Accident

On August 1, 2022, Henrik Wust, the state premier of North Rhine-Westphalia, presented the honor and praised the former Ferrari athlete for his contributions.

Michael, the racing legend, has given tens of millions of dollars to charity, served as an ambassador for UNESCO, and participated in numerous humanitarian endeavors.

Henrik said, “In Michael Schumacher, we are honoring a man today who not only stands out for his sporting achievements. But above all, we pay tribute to Michael Schumacher beyond racing and the spotlight. [He] has a big heart and for whom it was important to think about others.”

During the tribute presented to Michael, his wife, Corinna, accepted the honor on behalf of her husband. She broke down in tears after receiving the State prize of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Mrs. Schumacher said Michael is no longer the same man in a tearful speech. She stated, “I miss Michael every day. But it’s not just me who misses him.”

She added, “”It’s the children, the family, his father, everyone around him. I mean, everybody misses Michael, but Michael is here. Different, but he’s here and that gives us strength, I find.”

Michael Schumacher Family And Children

German former racing driver Michael Schumacher was born on January 3, 1969. The 53-year-old man was born in Hurth, North Rhine-Westphalia, West Germany.

At the time of his retirement from the sport in 2012, he was tied with Lewis Hamilton for the most World Drivers’ Championship victories (seven), pole positions (68), and podium finishes (155). The man still holds the record for the fastest laps (77).

Michael married Corinna Betsch in August 1995. Together, they have two kids: a son named Mick (born on March 22, 1999), and a daughter named Gina-Marie (born on February 20, 1997).

Schumacher is well known for being averse to the spotlight and always being protective of his personal life. In 2007, the family relocated to a newly constructed mansion near Gland, Switzerland, 650 square meters (7000 square feet) in size, and had access to a private beach on Lake Geneva.
