Rageh Omaar is married to Georgiana Rose “Nina” Montgomery-Cuninghame, the daughter of Sir John Montgomery-Cuninghame of Corsehill. The couple lives in Chiswick, West London, with their three children.
He maintains close contact with his family in Somaliland. He is also an activist for the Somali community and regularly attends its events and special occasions.
His family is from Hargeisa, and he is a Muslim. Omaar is a member of a famous family from the Habr Awal Isaaq clan’s Sa’ad Musa sub-division.
Omaar was born to Abdullahi and Sahra Omaar in Mogadishu in 1967. His father was an accountant who went on to become a businessman, a Massey Ferguson tractor agent, the founder of Somalia’s first independent newspaper, and the guy who brought Coca-Cola to the country.
Omaar went to the United Kingdom when he was two years old. He has multiple siblings, including Mohamed Abdullahi Omaar, a former Somali Foreign Minister.
