Scottish David Norrie and British Helen Norrie raised Cameron Norie in New Zealand.

Cameron is a British professional Tennis player, ranking no.1 in the country since 18 October 2021. He has four ATP Tour Singles Titles, and one doubles title under his name.

Despite representing Great Britain, he did not always play for the country. In fact, three countries missed their chance to bag the talent in their Tennis team. 

Who are Cameron Norrie’s Parents? Meet David Norrie and Helen Norrie 

Cameron Norrie’s parents are David Norrie and Helen Norrie. The professional was born to the couple on 23 August 1995.

As the son of former university-level athletes, Cameron’s love for sports began at an early age. His mother, Helen, used to be a long-distance runner and played squash at the university level. Likewise, father David placed top the British University-level squash player. 

However, both Helen and David ditched their sports journey to pursue careers as microbiologists. Nonetheless, Helen kept the family legacy alive by introducing her son to Tennis. Cameron was reportedly six years old when he started playing Tennis in his driveway.

Today, Helen and David fly miles to see their child play. Despite missing a few years of his career due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they were present to see him play at Wimbledon 2022. 

Cameron Norrie Scottish and British Heritage

Cameron Norrie belongs to the Scottish and British ethnicity. 

Helen is a native of Cardiff, Welsh. Similarly, Cameron gets his Scottish heritage from his dad, who hails from Glasglow in Scotland. 

During an interview in 2017, Norrie mentioned him as “Fully British.” He added, “My dad is fully Scottish and has a filthy Scottish accent. My mum was born in Wales.” The tennis player still has relatives in Scotland. 

He was brought up listening to his father – what he calls – a “filthy Scottish accent.” But, David is proud of his accent and even clapped back at his son in an interview and said, “I wish he would stop saying that about my accent.”

Cameron Norrie grew up in New Zealand along with his sibling, Bronwen Norrie. As a result, Cameron has adopted a mix of British and New Zealander accents – confusing new people.

Switching Places From an Early Age 

Cameron was born in South Africa, raised in New Zealand, and plays for Britain.

The British no.1 was actually born in Johannesburg, South Africa. However, when tennis star was three years old, his family moved to New Zealand after a burglary incident. 

He played for New Zealand during his junior career. However, due to the lack of finances from Tennis NZ, David and Helen funded his overseas expenses.

At 16 years old, he moved back to his homeland. Cameron Norrie lived in the country for three years and eventually switched his representing nationality to British at 17. 

In 2014, the athlete moved to the USA to attend Texas Christian University for three years. He was ranked the no.1 player in the nation at that time.
