Walker competed in 2019 and 2020 at Wake Forest. He carried the ball 217 times for 1,158 yards and 17 touchdowns during those two years. The running back was transferred to Michigan State University following the 2020 campaign. In his first season at Michigan State, he was named the starter.

He carried for 264 yards and four touchdowns in his Spartans debut. His four touchdowns matched Michigan State’s total for the 2020 season, and they were the team’s first rushing scores since the 2019 campaign The Doak Walker and Walter Camp Player of the Year Award for the NCAA season of 2021 went to Walker III. After the season, he declared for the 2022 NFL Draft and said he would forgo his senior year.
