One of Chechen strongman Ramzan Kadyrov’s top warlords and close advisors were slain Saturday in the struggle for Antonov Airport, an international cargo airport, and testing center northwest of the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv.
Magomed Tushayev, commander of the Chechen National Guard’s “141 motorized regiment,” was killed after a clash with the Ukrainian military’s elite Alpha Group.

Chechen commander Magomed Tushayev was killed by Ukrainian forces on Saturday at the Antonov International Airport (GML) northwest of Kyiv.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces verified his death in a tweet, adding, “Magomed Tushayev, commander of the Chechen National Guard’s 141 motorized regiments, was killed!”
Tushayev was killed while commanding a Chechen armored column in Ukraine.
Tushayev died as Kadyrov, a close friend of Russian President Vladimir Putin, declared on Saturday that Chechen fighters had been dispatched to Ukraine and urged Ukrainians to topple their government, according to Reuters.
In an online video, Kadyrov bragged that Chechen soldiers had suffered no losses thus far and that Russian forces could easily conquer key Ukrainian towns such as Kyiv.

Magomed Tushayev was the commander of the Chechen National Guard’s “141 motorized regiment.”
Tushayev, one of Kadyrov’s three senior advisors and military leaders before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, was actively involved in Chechnya’s campaign of terrorizing the LGBTQ population.
According to sources with Russian-based human rights organizations, Tushayev played an unspecified role when human rights activist and gay man Ibragim Selimkhanov was kidnapped from a subway station in Moscow’s Novogireyevo District.
Since 2017, human and LGBTQ+ activists have reported that Chechen security operatives and other officials in the Kadyrov regime, including Tushayev sources, have rounded up dozens of men on suspicion of being gay.
Then they held them in unofficial detention facilities for days, humiliated, starved, and tortured them.

Magomed Tushayev was of age 40 before his demise.
Tushayev was killed while commanding a Chechen armored column in Ukraine. Chechnya is a Muslim-majority constituent republic in southern Russia that has had a long conflict with Moscow.
Tushayev has been accused of murdering LGBTQ+ Chechens amid a brutal crackdown ordered by Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov in recent years.
