Where Is David Schechter Going? Leaving Wfaa After 16 Years

Verify Road Trip is a show that WFAA-TV and TEGNA Media produce. David is the correspondent, presenter, and co-producer of the show.

David takes actual people out on the road so that those individuals may form their inquiries, observe for themselves what Schechter observes, and come to their own opinions. Narrative on Verify takes a fundamentally different tack than what audiences are used to getting from their local news sources, which was a primary motivation for the creation of the show.

David is also a graduate of the University of Michigan, a Poynter Institute Ethics Fellow, and a two-time recipient of the Scripps Howard Award. Schechter has also won the national Murrow Award and the Scripps Howard Award.

WFAA posted a video hours ago notifying that David was finally quitting WFAA after 16 long years at the station.

At that time, David was new to Dallas, but since then, he has made quite an impact. The video posted by WFAA also featured David Schechter, who said he might not be able to get through the entire video without crying.

The host asked him how he felt, to which David understandably replied that he was only trying to pull it all together. David also said his goodbyes to the channel and the team because life had offered him an exciting opportunity he did not want to miss. 

Despite leaving for better career growth, David mentioned that he was very sad to leave the channel he has been a part of for a long time. David said that he enjoyed all the opportunities and love that the channel and its people gave him.  

David, in the video, also exclaimed that he loved the WFAA family, who has always supported him. The host reminded the audience that David has done monumental work for WFAA. She especially mentions the Verify Road Trip, a milestone in TV storytelling. The unusual show broke records and brought real people together as a part of the channel. 

Schechter has always been highly innovative during his time at the WFAA, which has resulted in David winning multiple awards. One such prestigious award that he received include the Du Ponto award.

The award was rewarded when he took a climate change skeptic to the Arctic with them during the Verify Road Trip. It was this story that changed the person as well as David himself. He said that he got very interested in climate change after that episode. His journalism on climate change brought him to the limelight and won him that award. 

David was also focused on the inequities of banks. He focused on how bank regulators did not pay much attention to minorities. He reminded the audience and the world how important this was for society.

David, during his tenure, encouraged and challenged everyone to do better. 

David is leaving WFAA to explore an opportunity that has knocked on his door. 

Schechter wants to accept a new challenge and move on in his life after 16 long years at WFAA. 

David is always excited to meet new people. He has a never-ending interest in and fascination with the inner workings of things.

Schechter is an excellent barista at home and is responsible for preparing the family’s short-order breakfast. If you follow David on Instagram, you will immediately realize that he enjoys eating sweets throughout the day every Saturday.

David like his job at WFAA because of the latitude it gives him to explore unconventional avenues of thought and experiment with fresh approaches to old problems.

David also values camaraderie, the common desire to perform an outstanding job, and the station’s commitment to retaining good personnel.
