On Sunday, July 24, a planned assassination occurred within the Ateneo de Manila University in Quezon City, killing a former mayor of Lamitan City in the Basilan province.

According to authorities, a former mayor from the unrest-ridden south of the nation was among the three victims of a shooting during a university graduation ceremony on Sunday in the capital area of the Philippines.

According to the Quezon City Police District, Rose Furigay, a former mayor of Lamitan City in the Basilan province, was one of the three people shot at the Ateneo de Manila University on Sunday.

Ateneo de Manila University was the scene of the incident as law students and their families gathered for a graduation ceremony that the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court was scheduled to attend.

The bodies of the three dead people, according to Brig. Gen. Remus B. Medina, director of the Quezon City Police District, is still at the scene. Victor Capistrano, Furigay’s executive assistant, and an unnamed security guard from the school were two of them.

Around 2:00 PM on Sunday, Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo of the Supreme Court was in route to the Ateneo de Manila University campus but was forced to turn around by the police.

Authorities announced the passing of Rose Furigay, a former local mayor whose daughter graduated from the school in the troubled southern province of Basilan.

A university security guard and Furigay’s executive assistant were also killed. According to authorities, her daughter was injured and is currently in a hospital in a “stable state.”
