The Westminster Police officers discovered East injured and lifeless at 5:51 pm. They found him critically wounded in his chest.
A 27-year-old suspect, Trent William Millsap, had fled the scene, and two days later, Millsap got arrested in Anaheim, California.
Millsap was a transient known to frequent Westminster, Garden Grove, and Anaheim motels. He was in an Anaheim apartment when a warrant for his arrest was issued.

According to CNN, the suspect died in a police shooting. A police officer confronting Millsap has sustained injuries following a confrontation with Millsap.
Nonetheless, the reason for the stabbing remains unknown.
