Brett Rypien Father Tim and Girlfriend: Is He Related To Mark Rypien?

Brett Rypien’s father, Tim Rypien, was a minor-league baseball player; therefore, he comes from a sporting background. His father, Tim, is a professional baseball player who advanced to Triple-A at Shadle Park, and his uncle Mark both went to the same high school.

Brett, a four-year starter, shattered Kellen Moore’s previous state high school passing records. After that, he transferred to Boise State, where he started four football seasons while shattering all of Kellen Moore’s throwing records. 

The football player has been playing with a baseball glove since he was two or three years old due to his father’s professional baseball career. He is also the first cousin twice removed of late NHL enforcer Rick Rypien and the cousin of former LFL quarterback Angela Rypien.

On the other hand, he is the nephew of Chris Tormey, a member of the Ottawa Redblacks staff and a relative from his mother’s side of the family.

Brett Rypien married his longtime girlfriend, Laura Buck, on April 10, 2022, at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California. Before getting married, the couple dated for six years.

Laura Buck has experience in both interior design and personal training. She is an account manager for the San Diego, California-based business Made Renovation.

Laura also holds a degree in public relations, advertising, and applied communications from Boise State. She played soccer while a student at Westview High School.

She later changed schools and enrolled at Boise State University, where she continued to play forward for the soccer team and earned a bachelor’s degree in public relations, advertising, and applied communication in 2018.

Brett Rypien was born in Spokane, Washington, to his parents, Tim and Julie Rypien. He grew up with his two sisters, Keara and Brigid Rypien.

He played football and baseball, the sport his father had played in the minor leagues as a young athlete. The quarterback for the Washington Redskins and Super Bowl champion Mark Rypien is his uncle. He was the Super Bowl 26 MVP.

He also has family members who play hockey in the lower league, Rick Rypien and Shane Churla. Shane presently works as a scout with the Montreal Canadiens after playing 11 NHL seasons with six different teams.

His niece Angela was one of the most well-known quarterbacks in the Legend Football League. His maternal uncle Chris Tormey works as an assistant football coach for the BC Lions in the Canadian Football League.

Mark Rypien Is Former Football Quarterback

Mark is a Canadian-born former well-known American football quarterback who played 14 seasons in the National Football League (NFL).

The Washington Redskins selected him in the sixth round of the 1986 NFL Draft after he played college football for Washington State. 

As a player of the Redskins in Super Bowl XXVI, he became the first quarterback of Canadian descent to start in the NFL and win the MVP award.

Rypien had a brief career as a team owner in NASCAR and was the original owner of the No. 97 squad, which Kurt Busch drove to the 2004 Nextel Cup championship, having sold to Jack Roush’s Roush Racing in 1997.

Brett Rypien signed a 1 year, $965,000 contract with the Denver Broncos, including an average annual salary of $965,000. 

Rypien was added to four different award watch lists before the start of fall camp. Before the beginning of the season, he also represented Boise State’s offensive unit at the Mountain West Football Media Days in Las Vegas. His teammates also elected him as one of the three team captains.

The season started with a victory for Rypien and the Broncos over the Troy Trojans. Rypien and Kansas graduate transfer Montell Cozart, a dual-threat quarterback, split time in that game.

Rypien joined the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent on April 27, 2019, after the NFL Draft, and tweeted that he would “remain a Bronco” after agreeing to a guaranteed salary of $146,000 and a $10,000 signing bonus.

Brett joined the Denver Broncos on April 27, 2019, as an undrafted free agent, and they have since been partners. According to his agent Kyle McCarthy, the Broncos were one of a double-digit number of clubs who made Rypien an offer.

However, Rypien chose the Broncos primarily because of his friendship with offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello.

 After starter Joe Flacco injured his neck, he was added to the active roster on November 1 to serve as Brandon Allen’s backup quarterback. After Drew Lock was taken off injured reserve on November 30, 2019, the Broncos dismissed Rypien.

Two days later, he was reinstated to the practice squad. Rypien joined the Broncos on December 31, 2019, under a reserve/future contract. On September 5, 2020, the Broncos released Rypien, and the following day, they added him to the practice squad.

On September 25, 2020, he was added to the active roster. He replaced starter Jeff Driskel in the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on September 27, 2020, marking his first time playing in a real game.

He made his first eight passes for a total of 53 yards, but the 28-10 defeat came when he threw a game-ending interception.
