He Signed With Denver Broncos

Brett joined the Denver Broncos on April 27, 2019, as an undrafted free agent, and they have since been partners. According to his agent Kyle McCarthy, the Broncos were one of a double-digit number of clubs who made Rypien an offer.

However, Rypien chose the Broncos primarily because of his friendship with offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello.

 After starter Joe Flacco injured his neck, he was added to the active roster on November 1 to serve as Brandon Allen’s backup quarterback. After Drew Lock was taken off injured reserve on November 30, 2019, the Broncos dismissed Rypien.

Two days later, he was reinstated to the practice squad. Rypien joined the Broncos on December 31, 2019, under a reserve/future contract. On September 5, 2020, the Broncos released Rypien, and the following day, they added him to the practice squad.

On September 25, 2020, he was added to the active roster. He replaced starter Jeff Driskel in the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on September 27, 2020, marking his first time playing in a real game.

He made his first eight passes for a total of 53 yards, but the 28-10 defeat came when he threw a game-ending interception.
