What Type Of Illness Does Carl Webb Have? Motor Neurone Disease Condition And Update

The former professional rugby league footballer Carl Webb got diagnosed with early-onset Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, aka motor neuron disease/Lou Gehrig’s disease.

He got aware of suffering from the neurodegenerative disease when he was 39 and shared his condition with fans and well-wishers on the 5th of March, 2020.

After playing a combined 187 NRL games for clubs including the Brisbane Broncos, North Queensland Cowboys, and Parramatta Eels for over a decade, the athlete became a victim of a rare condition that attacks his nerve cells which control breathing, swallowing, moving, and speaking. 

It has been two years since Weeb has been battling for his life against Motor Neurone disease; the disease knocked into the footballer’s life at the young age of 39.

Although the athlete is aware that the illness has no known cure, he hasn’t given up on his precious life. Furthermore, he is sharing his experience and speaking up to raise awareness and education about MND.

With the love and support of his friends and family, he is living with a big smile despite suffering pain. However, he appears to use a wheelchair to walk long-distance or stand for a more extended period.

Carl is doing his part to ensure others who contract the disease have a fighting chance by raising funds through a foundation he formed with his close ones Carl Webb Foundation.

The charity organization got established with the hope of combating Motor Neurone Disease, and anyone who wants to help the victims fight the disease can donate money on their official website. Likewise, they have also created an Instagram account under the handle @carlwebbfoundation, which has accumulated 1k followers.

MND, also called Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis/Lou Gehrig’s disease, is neurodegenerative. It results in the progressive loss of motor neurons controlling voluntary muscles.

Its early symptoms include muscle cramps, stiff muscles, gradually increasing weakness, and muscle wasting. Furthermore, the MND-affected muscles are responsible for chewing food, speaking, and walking.

Likewise, it further affects the ability to eat, speak, move, and until one loses the ability to breathe; the disease eventually causes paralysis resulting in early death, usually from respiratory failure.

Although the cause of ALS is unknown, genetic and environmental factors might be the reason. And even though there is no cure, some medications, therapy, breathing support, and Palliative care, among others, help fight the disease.

Webb hasn’t disclosed his marital status nor shared any pictures of him walking down the aisle with h lover. So, we presume that he is unmarried and has no wife.

However, the athlete might have kept his relationship status confidential to protect the privacy of his loved ones; he seems to have tied the knot with his sweetheart and welcomed little ones but preferred not to introduce them to the public. Furthermore, Carl seems to have moved into disability housing in Brisbane as he needs to take support from others. He also revealed it was tough to accept assistance from several MND support agencies as he didn’t want to be apart from his friends and families.
