A Democratic politician and environmental activist, Maxmin was the first female state senator in Maine history and was the youngest member of the 129th Maine Legislature.

Maxmin announced her candidacy for Maine House of Representatives District 88 representative in February 2018 and candidacy for Maine State Senate District 13 on January 13, 2020. Maxmin’s term ends on December 7, 2022.

Senate President Troy Jackson appointed her to the Maine Climate Council in February 2021.

Maxmin does not seem to have a husband and was raised on her family’s farm in Nobleboro and has worked as a community organizer for over a decade.

She has worked on a number of political campaigns and initiatives focusing on climate change and environmental protection in Maine.

Maine Women’s Fund, Rolling Stone, Washington Post, Real Time with Bill Maher, MPBN, CNNand others have all praised her work.

As a public figure constantly judged by the public, she has made sure not to bring her family into the eye of the public. As such, not much is known about her family. However, she is thought to have two sisters.

In 2013, Maxmin was named a Green Hero by Rolling Stone and was honored with the annual Brower Youth Award. For her youth activism and social change work, she received the 2014 Samantha Smith Award from the Maine Women’s Fund 2014. 

Maxmin returned to Maine in 2015 after graduating from Harvard University with a bachelor’s degree in social studies. She also has a minor in environmental science and public policy.

Chloe Maxmin Wikipedia and Biography Details

Maxmin grew up on her family farm in Nobleboro, Maine, where she was born in 1992.

She attended Lincoln Academy, where she founded the Lincoln Academy Climate Action Club in ninth grade in response to a 2005 proposal by Plum Creek Development Company to develop Moosehead Lake in the North Maine Woods.

Maxmin was featured on the “Communities” episode of Season 3 of Big Ideas for a Small Planet in 2009, in part for her work with the Climate Action Club.

Maxmin passed out from Lincoln Academy in 2010 and began attending Harvard University in the fall of 2011. While still a student, Maxmin co-founded the Divest Harvard campaign and led the Community Action Committee at Harvard.
