Is Cole Caufield Related To Jay Caufield? Brother and Family Ties

Cole Caufield and Jay Caufield are not related, as neither has opened up to the public about having possible ties.

Cole and Jay have many things in common, including their last name and the sports they love; Jay played ice hockey from 1985 to 1994 for Pittsburgh Penguins, Minnesota North Stars, and New York Rangers.

After retiring, he became a personal trainer for some time and now works as an analyst for AT&T SportsNet Pittsburgh on Penguins Pregame & Postgame. The former ice hockey player appeared in a 1995 sports action-thriller movie by Peter Hyams as Penguins’ goalie, Brad Tolliver.

However, they are not a father-son duo; the 62 years old former athlete has a daughter named Chandler Caufield, but she has maintained a low profile. Likewise, the young ice hockey player was born to Paul Caufield. Furthermore, they have not shared if they are distant relatives, nor do they follow or post each other on social media. 

Cole has an older brother named Brock Caufield, born in 1999; despite being 22 months apart, the siblings are close and have healthy competition. 

They went to the same high school, Stevens Point Area High School; when the older was a junior, the younger was a freshman. Furthermore, the duo drives each other to become better athletes.

The Montreal Canadiens right winger grew up watching his brother play; Brock skated when his sibling was four, signed with Badger in 2018, and became the team’s alternate captain. 

Before joining Badger, the athlete spent two seasons with the Green Bay Gamblers in the USHL. Furthermore, he graduated in 2022 with a degree in personal finance and is pursuing a master’s in sports leadership.

Moreover, Brock always pushed and helped shape his younger brother, and he is proud of all the achievements that the right winger has made since a young age. They have also faced each other in several matches, but the results have never affected their relationship.

Paul Caufield and Kelly Fitzgerald-Caufield are Cole’s beloved parents; He was born in 2001 in Mosinee, Wisconsin, United States.

The athlete’s father inspired him to play sports; Paul is the all-time leading scorer for the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point; he played for UWSP from 1988 to 1992. Then he served as an assistant coach at UWSP from 2002 to 2006 and resumed his current position as Ice Hawks Arena’s manager.

The former athlete coached both his sons throughout their youth, and the young Caufield always credits his dad for his success to date; without his direction, he wouldn’t have made it this far. Furthermore, Paul and Kelly are on social media; they are active under the handles @paul_caufield and @kellycaufield. 

Hockey Runs through Caufield Family Veins

Hockey has passed through three generations in the Caufield’s. Paul isn’t the first from the family to play the sport; he walked into his father Wayne Caufield’s footsteps. 

Wayne, the grandfather of Cole, played in the Eastern Hockey League from 1963 to 1970 and later became Milwaukee Admirals’ player/coach; he also got inducted into Wisconsin Hockey’s Hall of Fame in 2011.

The late Caufield also coached his son at Milwaukee SHAW high school. Under his supervision, Paul became a college star at Stevens Point, a three-time NCAA champion, and a two-time All-American.

His love and passion for hockey passed down to his grandchildren as Cole and Brock began playing from a young age. Furthermore, he loved witnessing his grandsons’ games alongside his son and daughter-in-law.

Cole signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Montreal Canadiens on the 27th of March 2021.

Per NHL, the athlete will earn $700,000 at the NHL level in 2020-21, whereas $832,500 in both 2021-22 and 2022-23. Likewise, he will also receive a signing bonus of $92,500 in all three seasons.

Thus, his annual salary is $70,000 per season at the AHL level. Furthermore, he will receive performance bonuses of up to $300,000 in 2021-22 and up to $850,000 in 2022-23.

Moreover, Caufield also makes money from social media partnerships; he recently thanked Jump Bed, a Canadian mattress retailer, for providing him with a cozy mattress. 

Likewise, he partnered with the American lifestyle brand Shinola which produces and sells watches, bicycles, leather goods, clocks, home goods, and jewelry; the ice hockey player flaunted their hand watch on the 12th of October 2021 through his Instagram, @colecaufield.

Cole Caufield Career: From Playing At Age Two To Turning Professional In 2021

The Montreal Canadiens right winger began skating at age two and has come a long way. Belonging to an athletic family and receiving proper guidance from a young age helped him evolve into an incredible player. 

Cole played Bantam AAA ice hockey for Team Wisconsin and had a successful high school career at Stevens Point Area Senior High School. Later he joined the USA Hockey National Team Development Program and played his collegiate career at Wisconsin Badgers from 2019 to 2021.

Furthermore, Montreal Canadiens drafted him in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, and the athlete made his professional debut on the 9th of April 2021 against the Toronto Marlies. 

Caufield has also represented the United States in numerous tournaments and won many medals. He became a gold medalist at the U17 WHC and the 2021 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships. Likewise, he also won silver and bronze medals at the 2018 U18 WJC and 2019 U18 WJC, respectively.
