Who Is Georgina Godwin? Journalist And Author Is Making The Best Out Her Career

Interviewer and broadcast journalist Georgina Godwin is now working in the field.

During Georgina’s childhood, the country of Zimbabwe was still a British colony and went by the name Rhodesia. She lived there in Southern Africa. As Georgina and her siblings knew, their father embodied the stereotype of an Englishman living abroad by speaking with a lilting accent and maintaining a stoic demeanor.

Nevertheless, some aspects of him always didn’t quite fit the mold. It wasn’t until Georgina’s father was ill and lying in the hospital bed that she realized why he’d felt the need to hide his true identity all those years before.

Georgina Godwin was born and raised in Zimbabwe. 

She attained significant notoriety in recognition of her performance as a prime-time host on radio and television in the Zimbabwean media. She also became a columnist and featured writer in the local press. Georgina Godwin currently resides in the United Kingdom. Georgina was an original member of the Harare International Festival of the Arts, today the largest festival of its kind in terms of the number of disciplines represented.

Following a victorious legal challenge to the state’s monopoly on radio and television transmission, Georgina was a team member that established Zimbabwe’s first privately owned radio station. Almost immediately after, this was closed down by proclamation from the President and the boots and rifle butts of the Police. After being labeled as enemies of the state, the broadcasters moved their operations to London, from whence they maintained their transmissions to Zimbabwe, although through short wave radio.

After working for the station for three years to produce and present the news, Georgina left to pursue a career as a freelance journalist. She worked extensively in the British media, briefing and contributing information about the crisis in Zimbabwe and appearing on and producing many documentaries for television and radio. Georgina is one of the first media organizations contact when looking for an update on Southern Africa or a suitable Zimbabwean citizen to interview.

The radio host is currently active in various mainstream media outlets. Her work as a radio and television presenter and a chairperson for live events is heard frequently.

The wedding took place in Zimbabwe in March of 1997 for Georgina Godwin.

Georgina tied the knot with Jeremy, a photographer. After attending an English drama school for three years, Georgina returned to the United States. She kept up with the latest local TV news at the wedding. The country of Zimbabwe is where Georgina gave birth to her daughter. Later, she decided that she wanted to go to the country with her kid and Jeremy.

She had the goal of assisting in establishing a new opposition radio station that would transmit across Africa without being subject to the intimidation or censorship of the Mugabe administration. But sooner or later, Jeremy and Georgina ended their relationship. Jeremy suddenly concluded that he was gay, and as a result, he left. He abandoned Georgina and their daughter, Xanthe, and went his separate way. She was denied entry into Zimbabwe because of the radio broadcasts the presenter had been doing.

During the week, you can catch Georgina presenting “The Continental Shift” on Monocle 24 in the mornings.

This consists of both music and conversation at the same time. She also hosts the Weekend Edition every Saturday, during which she conducts a live 30-minute interview with various guests. Some of her previous interviewees include Brian Eno, Stanley Johnson, Jamie Byng, and John Lloyd of QI. In one of her other shows, “new music hour,” she plays the most recent music releases worldwide. As the station’s resident “Africa specialist,” she not only reads and produces the hourly bulletins but also contributes to the news programs on the station and occasionally reads them.

Georgina is a part of the board of Developing Artists, an international organization whose mission is to promote and sustain artistic expression in sub-Saharan Africa. 

Books titled “Mukiwa,” “When a Crocodile Eats the Sun,” and “The Fear” each include further information about Georgina and her family. The latter is a documentary that follows her as she travels back to Zimbabwe with her brother Peter to observe the most recent wave of electoral violence.
