Smith was selected for the Second Team All-Big 12 Conference. He initially signed with Seattle in 2019, where he supported Russell Wilson for three seasons.

Geno Smith was born on October 10, 1990, in Miami, Florida, to his parents, mother Tracy Seller and father, Eugene Smith Jr.

His family has a history of sports involvement. His great-uncle Danny Smith, a hurdler for the Florida State Seminoles football team, was an All-American.

In the middle of the 1980s, his cousin Melvin Bratton played running back for Miami and was a standout.

Smith was accepted into the magnet program at Norland Middle School, which provided two hours daily for arts education. He later enrolled at Miramar High School, where former Mountaineer Damon Cogdell served as his coach.
