Johnny Famechon wed Elise Famechon in 1970. Elise and Johnny married at St. Brigid’s Church in Mordialloc, and Johnny was delighted to have her as his life partner.

Johny hasn’t said much about how they met, but they dated for a while before getting engaged.

After relocating to Frankston, they welcomed Paul as their first child. The couple’s daughter Danielle, born in 1974, is now 48 years old.

Johnny was one of the best and most well-known Australian boxers of all time, but it was a terrible accident away from the ring that demonstrated his tremendous fortitude and generosity.

Famechon was born in Paris and moved to Australia when he was five.  He had a remarkable professional career and won a world championship in 1969.

After defeating the Cuban José Legrá in the Albert Hall in London on points, he was both the Lineal and WBC featherweight champion.

In a contentious points decision, he successfully defended his championship against Fighting Harada of Japan.

Six months later, in their rematch in Japan, Famechon triumphed convincingly by knocking Harada out in the 14th round, considered his most illustrious victory.
