Crossfit: Logan Aldridge Boat Accident

Adaptive CrossFit athlete, Logan Aldridge had to have his left arm amputated after a wakeboarding accident at Lake Gaston. The incident happened on June 26, 2004, when Logan was only 13-years-old.

He and his father were at their neighbor’s dock to drop off a friend after a day of wakeboarding. Young Logan was standing on the back of the boat, about to untangle the tow rope, which was still attached to the boat.

The boat was idling, and the rope’s end had managed to drift beneath it and become tangled in the propeller.

He had not thought about the rope being wrapped around his arm and this is where everything went wrong.  His arm was vehemently pulled through the blades, cutting all of his muscles down to the bone.

Logan was taken to South Hill Community Memorial Hospital by local EMS before being airlifted to the UNC-Chapel Hill Medical Center by helicopter.

After waiting for five and a half hours, he was finally taken to the operating room.
