Legendary Dodgers Scout Mike Brito Biography And Family Details, What Happened To Him?

Mike Brito has been the Los Angeles Dodgers’ top scout in Mexico for almost 45 years. He helped the team identify players like Fernando Valenzuela, Yasiel Puig, and Julio Uras, who is currently the team’s starting pitcher.

Through his work as a scout in the Mexican League, he met the Dodgers and their general manager at the time, Al Campanis, who in 1978 recruited Brito on a full-time basis. He signed pitcher Bobby Castillo as his first play.

Brito played in the minor league system for the Washington Senators from 1955 to 1961 before rising to fame as one of baseball’s top scouts. He played professionally in Mexico from 1961 through 1966, getting as high as Triple-A.

At the 2014 Winter Meetings of Major League Baseball, Brito won the international scout of the year award. He was inducted into the Cuban Baseball Hall of Fame in 2005.

He was honored with the Tony Gwynn Award by Baseball America for his services to the sport. For a period of time, Brito was a recognizable figure behind home plate at Dodger home games, donning a Panama hat and aiming a radar gun toward the pitcher’s mound.

Mike Bito was born in 1934 in Cuba. Brito passed away at the age of 87. He was a skilled catcher who, after leaving his own country, played three minor league baseball seasons in the United States (1955–57).

After his playing career ended, Brito made a name for himself in Los Angeles, where he moved in 1962, as an amateur coach and player.

For more than 40 years, Brito, 87, has been the leading scout for the Dodgers in Mexico. Brito, who was born in Cuba, played baseball professionally before becoming a scout.

Mike Brito, who spent more than four decades scouting players for the Dodgers, including Julio Uras and Fernando Valenzuela, died on July 7, 2022, at the age of 87. At the time of his passing, Brito was still actively scouting players for the Dodgers.
