 Nico Mannion suffered a dangerous weight loss last year and it caused him to step away from the ball game for nearly a year.

Niccol “Nico” Mannion is an Italian-American basketball player who now plays for Virtus Bologna in the Italian Lega Basket Serie A. (LBA).

He was a member of the Arizona Wildcats during his undergraduate career.

A Photoshoot at a team practice revealed Nico Mannion’s already slim physique went through a scary weight loss.

Mannion was unable to attend Virtus’ training camp and thus missed the team’s first preseason game on September 3rd.

Sergio Scariolo, Virtus’ head coach, cautioned that Mannion would be gone for some time and that the squad would need a replacement for the start of the season.

Thankfully, the 20-year-old has restored his fitness after losing nearly 20 pounds as a result of the virus.

His agent, Bill Duffy, told NBA insider Jordan Schultz that after winning a title in Italy, the 20-year-old aspires to return to the NBA, and that appears to be the long-term plan.

Nico Mannion Virus Infection And Illness Update

Nico Mannion had an intestinal infection. Nico Mannion has allegedly recovered completely from a severe intestinal infection contracted abroad.

Mannion’s health problems began with the Italian national team at the Tokyo Olympics. The actual source of the infection is unknown, but he appeared to have lost a significant amount of weight as a result of it.

After spending last season with the Warriors, the 20-year-old signed with Virtus Bologna in Italy over the summer.

He has been unable to play due to the virus, but he has returned 17 of the pounds he had lost and has begun individual training.

Where Is Nico Mannion Now?

Nico Mannion was on his way to Italy for the 2021-2022 season. The Warriors will not use the point guard this season, but they will keep his rights.

Mannion will now play for Virtus Bologna in the Italian Serie A basketball competition, where he will be joined by former NBA players Milos Teodosic and Kevin Hervey.

If Mannion decides to return to the NBA following his time in Italy, the Warriors will retain his restricted free agent status.

The Warriors allegedly signed former Brooklyn Nets guard Chris Chiozza to fill Mannion’s roster spot.
