On September 4, 1949, Thomas Sturges Watson was born. The golfer has reached the age of 72.

The golfer, who was born in Kansas City, Missouri, was introduced to the sport by his father, Ray. Stan Thirsk, a Kansas City Country Club coach, was the athlete’s first coach. 

The athlete rose to prominence in his hometown while playing for The Pembroke-Country Day School in Kansas City. In 1967, 1968, 1970, and 1971, the golfer won four Missouri State Amateur Championships.

The golfer also spent 32 weeks in the top 10 when the successor Sony Rankings was first announced in 1986. He was also a member of four Ryder Cup teams, one of which he captained to victory at The Belfry in England in 1993.

Watson is now single, but he has been married in the past. From 1972 to 1997, the golfer was married to Linda Rubin. Apart from that, his second wife, Hilary Watson, died of pancreatic cancer in 2019 at the age of 63.
