Waylon Collins From Tomball School Identified As Gonzalo Lopez Victim
Gonzalo Lopez, who escaped from a prisoner bus in Texas last month, was killed in a gunfight with cops late Thursday, only hours after he was labeled the lead suspect in the deaths of four children in Leon County, including Waylon Collins.
Gonzalo Lopez, an escaped inmate, was apprehended Thursday in Atascosa County, more than 250 miles from where he first escaped from a prison bus on May 12.
Lopez is suspected of killing a Houston family, one adult, and four children, including Waylon Collins of Tomball High School, according to investigators.

Earlier on Thursday, authorities said Gonzalo Lopez was the suspect in the death of a Waylon Collins family discovered dead in their remote home. Waylon Collins was a Tomball High School student who tragically died at a young age.
Waylon Collins’ family was utilizing the Leon County home as a weekend retreat, according to Clark. Lopez, who allegedly broke into the house and took a vehicle that Clark described as a farm truck, allegedly had no relation to the family, according to investigators.

Lopez escaped while being transported from one facility in Gatesville to another in Huntsville for a medical appointment, and the home was within the perimeter police were searching. Huntsville is located around 70 miles north of Houston.

A convicted murderer who had escaped from a prison bus last month was slain in a gunfight with police late Thursday, hours after he became the lead suspect in the murders of five people at a residence, according to authorities.
Gonzalo Artemio Lopez, the convicted murderer, had been the leading suspect in the deaths of four youngsters and one adult, whose bodies were discovered on Thursday at a residence near where he had escaped in May.

He had grabbed a car from the house, a white Chevrolet Silverado, to drive out of the region, according to investigators.
Late on Thursday night, police officers in Jourdanton, Texas, spotted according to Jason Clark, chief of staff of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Mr. Lopez, 46, was driving the missing car and damaged it by placing spike strips on the road. Mr. Lopez had escaped to Jourdanton, which is located south of San Antonio and more than 200 miles southwest of the location where he had escaped.

Age Of Waylon Collins At The Time Of His Death
Waylon Collins died at a young age when he appeared to be in his twenties and was a student at Tomball School.
Mr. Clark told reporters at a press conference that the five victims were killed on Thursday afternoon, and that the property was within a perimeter where law enforcement officers had been searching for Mr. Lopez since his escape.

He said officials planned to undertake a severe incident investigation to figure out how Mr. Lopez managed to get over the state’s security systems.
