What Happened To Percy Tau? South African Soccer Player Transfer News Update

Percy Tau is a professional soccer player from South Africa. He plays as a forward for the South African national team and Al Ahly SC of the Egyptian Premier League. Tau signed a two-year contract with Al Ahly SC in 2021.

Tau, raised in eMalahleni, started his professional soccer career with Mamelodi Sundowns in 2014. He moved to numerous clubs between 2014 and 2022, some on loans, before ending up at Al Ahly. According to reports, the South African forward may leave Al Ahly and rejoin Anderlecht, his former club, during the current transfer window.

Where Is Percy Tau Now?

Percy Tau is still a part of Al Ahly SC of the Egyptian Premier League. However, there are speculations of a possible transfer of Tau to Anderlecht swirling across the Internet. The forward’s contract is supposed to last through June 2024 with Ahly, but it is unclear whether he will complete it, given his ongoing injury problems in recent years.

The 28-year-old player had a successful first year, with six assists and eight goals in 28 games for Al Ahly in all competitions. His performances spurred Al Ahly to win the CAF Super Cup in 2021 and advance to the CAF Champions League final. However, Tau hasn’t scored or provided an assist in domestic competition since November 2021, and recently he has been in talks of transfer.

Moreover, after the former head coach Pitso Mosimane left Al Ahly, speculation of Tau separating from Al Ahly garnered more attention. Tau may leave Al Ahly during the current transfer window with a return to Belgian in the works, according to a Voetbalbelgie report; however, nothing has been confirmed.

Percy Tau Is Injured, So Hasn’t Been Playing

In June 2022, Ahly stated Tau wouldn’t be able to play for the club for about a month because of his injury. The player’s x-ray revealed yet another injury to his quadriceps, a persistent issue for the attacker; therefore, the team’s doctor, Ahmed Abu Abla, recommended him to stay out of games.

According to a reliable source in Egypt, Tau’s injury history has upset a segment of the club administration, and there are signs that the Red Eagles are considering terminating Tau’s contract because they believe he is “injury prone.” Tau’s injury problems date back to his time in Belgian when he was on the roster of Anderlecht and was out for more than three months

Since joining Ahly in August of last year, Tau has suffered six injuries, equal to the number of goals he had contributed to Ahly since his recruitment.

Tau started his soccer journey with Mamelodi Sundowns and transferred to Witbank Spurs on loan in 2016. After that, he moved to Brighton & Hove Albion in 2018, and the same year, he again transferred to Union SG on loan. Tau’s parent club has been Brighton since 2019, but he transferred to Brugge and Anderlecht on loan in 2019 and 2020, respectively. The soccer player transferred to Al Ahly in 2021 on a contract and has been there ever since.
