On February 19, 2017, Nakatani was scheduled to face Atiwit Munyapho in the first round of the Japanese flyweight Youth Tournament. He won by second-round technical knockout and fourth-round technical knockout.
He defeated Akui via technical knockout in the sixth round and was also named tournament MVP.
Nakatani went on to win the next four fights before facing Naoki Mochizuki for the vacant Japanese flyweight title, where he won the fight via technical knockout in the ninth round.
On June 1, 2019, he defeated Philip Luis Cuerdo through a first-round knockout. Nakatani vacated the Japanese flyweight title on July 23, 2019.
