David Trimble, a famous former first minister of Northern Ireland, passed away at 77. Trimble served as the UUP leader from 1995 to 2005 and was the first minister of Stormont from 1998 to 2002.

David Trimble has been married twice, and the politician has four children. Trimble’s first wife was Heather McComb, with whom he married in 1968 and divorced after eight years in 1976. However, he has no children with her.
All of his four children are from his second wife, Daphne Elizabeth. In fact, Daphne is a former student of David. She is a Northern Ireland academic and a former politician. The couple married in 1978 and together have two sons and two daughters.

His wife, Daphne, enjoys politics and serves on the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission and the Northern Ireland Equality Commission. As aforementioned, David was a British politician who served as the first Minister of Northern Ireland dated from 1998 to 2002 and the Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) leader from 1995 to 2005.

All four children of David Trimble are with his second wife, Heather McComb, as there were no kids from David’s first marriage.
The political enthusiasm of parents has also been passed on to the son as one of their sons, Nicholas Trimble, works as a secretary for the Lisburn Ulster Unionist Branch. He was co-opted to substitute Alexander Redpath as a Lisburn and Castlereagh City Councillor representing Downshire West in 2016.

Likewise, David’s daughter Victoria, also known as Vicky, is a lesbian, and she married her girlfriend Rosalind Stephens in Scotland in 2017. In 2019, David admitted that she forced him to change his views on same-sex marriage and partnerships after voting against them.

David worked to a great extent to lead the UUP and was a key negotiator for the Good Friday Agreement, the peace agreement that ended the worst of Northern Ireland’s Troubles.
Moreover, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his contribution. Since 2006, Trimble has held the title of Baron Trimble of Lisnagarvey in the House of Lords. Another reason why David gained notoriety is also due to the Drumcree conflict, in which local nationalists protested the march of an orange parade down Garvaghy Road.
Likewise, in 1995, David led the procession down the street while famously holding hands with Ian Paisley, the famous leader of the Democratic Unionist Party. Trimble was a visionary leader who had problem-solving skills. Losing him suddenly came as a shock to everyone.

In a statement on behalf of the Trimble family, the UUP leader Doug Beattie said: “It is with great sadness that the family members of Lord Trimble announce that David passed away peacefully earlier today following a short illness.” He further stated that his death would cause “deep sadness” throughout Northern Ireland and much further afield.
Along with adding several sentences as a tribute to David, Beattie ended his speech by saying, “On behalf of the Ulster Unionist Party, and with a very heavy heart, I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to David’s wife Lady Trimble and his children, Richard, Victoria, Sarah and Nicholas.”
