What Happened To Gary Naysmith? Health Related Problems Of The Scottish Coach And Former Star

A recent two victories in six games seems to have focused attention on the manager’s position, and the board decided it was time to fire 43-year-old Gary Naysmith. The rumors of his health problem are getting some attention daily.

This month, he took over one year ago as James McDonaugh’s replacement, who moved into a new position as the Capital club’s sporting director.

Naysmith began his senior career with Hearts, where he was a left-back or left-winger. Naysmith relocated to England and spent seven seasons with Premier League team, Everton. Between 2000 and 2009, Naysmith received 46 caps for the Scotland national team.

Naysmith joined the part-time team, East Fife, in the summer of 2013 and was later named the player-manager. He managed Queen of the South, a championship squad, from December 2016 until May 2019. In March 2021, he was appointed manager of Edinburgh City. However, he was let go a year later.

Naysmith joined Hearts from the Colts squad of local side Whitehill to begin his professional career. A few months later, in a League Cup match with Celtic, Naysmith made his professional debut at 17. His chance came as a result of the Maroons’ previous game at Rangers seeing no fewer than four defenders sent off due to suspensions.

Under Walter Smith, Gray Naysmith first established himself as a regular, and he continued under David Moyes, who succeeded him. Everton supporters named him “El Blanco Carlos” after the Brazilian left-back Roberto Carlos due to his early performances.

Despite having an injury-marred Everton career, he made 152 appearances and scored six goals. He was the target of a “blood-curdling, x-rated” attack by Steven Gerrard of Liverpool in December 2002.

Naysmith lost his first-team spot at Everton to Alessandro Pistone in the 2004–05 season due to a long-term ankle injury. Nuno Valente, a Portuguese international, took up the left-back position at Goodison Park in the 2005–06 season.
