Stephen, a Labour MP, said his mother’s diagnosis was a traumatic experience for the family.
Following the resignation of Caroline Flint, Kinnock was appointed Minister for Europe in the 2009 cabinet reshuffle.
On 30 June 2009, the politician was given a life peerage and became Baroness Kinnock of Holyhead, of Holyhead in the County of Ynys Môn, allowing her to join the government. On the same day, she was introduced to the House of Lords.
